Homixide Gang - Homixide Lifestyle 2 (Album Review)

Homixide Gang return for the first full-length project since 2024.

“Homixide Lifestyle 2” is the sixth commercial project from American rap duo Homixide Gang. It serves as the follow-up to 2024’s “i5u5we5”, and the second Homixide Lifestyle installment, succeeding “Homixide Lifestyle” in 2023. It consists of a 24 tracks for a runtime of one hour and 18 minutes, with features from fellow Opium label members Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely.

These guys take “yelling at the mic” to a whole new level. This whole album is really just a crazy moshpit-like trip inside the minds of two of hip-hop’s talented up and coming artists. Their hardcore beats, electric on mic capability and trap-rock-metal fused production, are a breath of fresh air, particularly for the innovation of tracks like PC5, with the pair confident in their ability to step away from pure rap tracks.

Honestly, coming into this album, I had zero expectations, specifically for a rage/trap scene lacking heavy hitters in recent memory. I thought this would be your typical Ken Carson wannabes screaming into a microphone for an hour. Surely, these guys have to be bad if Playboi Carti chooses to take himself off the album at the last minute, right? Far from it.

While the lyrics may not be saying much (ignore Meechie literally promoting violence on PC5), lyricism is definitely the last thing you’re looking for in a Homixide Gang project. Their vocal inflections and on-track chemistry turn the album into an experience like no other.

I also love how neither has their own “thing”. Meechie and Beno scream as much as each other and never overshadow one another on their tracks. Their vibe is infectious to the point I’ve been screaming “homicide!” throughout the house since this drop.

While 25 tracks may seem bloated for a relatively unknown duo with only 1.4 million Spotify listeners, this project isn't a chore to sit through.

The best tracks are definitely the trap-metal cuts, but there is a ton of versatility on this album, with each song having its own flair. Songs like “5G” fuse trap with rock, while “SOUL-FLY” and “STATE PROPERTY” proves the duo has versatility beyond hardcore tracks, showcasing their ability for melodic rap too.

Outside of the music, Homixide Gang has some of the coolest visuals in music right now. Their music videos are super awesome, often creating a mini movie. It's cool to see outside the cliche of girls and money always seen in rap music videos.

I would love to see these guys on a real rock or metal project soon. They have the talent to hold their own outside the rap genre.
